I was wondering if someone could give me a hand. As my Stargate ships are almost finished, that’s all of them got some left to do but that’s not the point. I’ve been looking at the Zoic renders, some high quality pictures and the episodes them selves and my notes of new galactica ships are coming on well. But as I’ve mentioned previously I’m new to illustrator and my knowledge of it is shaky at best. So I was wondering if some kind person could make some silhouettes for me and mail them to rannoch35@yahoo.co.uk I’m doing both Battlestar types the Mk 2 and 7 vipers and the raptor. For the cylon I’m making every unit we’ve see, so the basestar, raider and heavy raider.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can I also ask for a second opinion on the Pegasus type battlestar, I’ve got some huge pics and so far I’ve counted 7 twin cannons on each flight pod, and 12 twin cannons on the forward section. Every time I look I find more, and I’m not going to have enough room on a SCS to represent all these guns.

Thanks

Rannoch, do you know of any good shots of all of the ships? Some links could probably help better than random image searches.

If there are any top downs or near top downs, it would be fairly easy to get you some silhouettes.

Worst come to worst, I can go take some pics of the Studio Bergstrom BSG minis outside and trace off of them, but there has to be some better shots to work off of out there.

The Zoic renders of the Galactica has a top down view, but i don't remember where i got them from. When i tryed to make a silhouette of that it failed, badly. Unfortunatly all the pics i have of the other shpis i.e. the Pegasus are all side views and not very helpfull.

I was wondering how you go about making a silhouette, it'd be nice to be able to stand on my own two feet.

Finally sorry i guess i should have made it a new topic.

trhanks

If you've got a top-down shot of Galactica, send it to me at tyrel_lohr@wyoming.com along with any other ship images that you might have there that you need silhouetted. I can take a stab at the easy ones and see what I can come up with.

As for tracing silhouettes in Illustrator, the best thing to do is to make sure the graphic you are trying to chase is fairly large (either start with a large graphic or stretch it out a bit) and then Lock it using the Object > Lock command. With it locked, get your pen tool and set it so the color of the Stroke and Fill are something that you can see, and then start going around the edge of it slowly but steadily. You should probably get some experience with bezier curves if you haven't already, as there are a lot of shapes that fit better to a gradual curve than herky-jerky straight lines.

You then go around and trace one half of the ship. Yes, just half of it -- most ships tend to have bilateral symmetry. If not, you will have to trace the entire thing, of course. Anyway, once you have half the ship traced, you can copy the half you have done, Paste in Front (CTRL-F), and then Transform > Reflect across the appropriate axis. Then drag this other half to where it should be and connect the two halves, either using your pen tool on open points or by using the Unite/Merge Pathfinder tool.

P.S. No problem on the thread issue; I just thought it would be nice to break this off as its own thread, as it seemed to be a separate thought, just on a tangent from the stickied thread.

Go me, my first dubble post.

Tyrel, I followed your instructions and my silhouette of the Galactica is made and looks frakking good. Took me about ten minutes. But I’m still needing help with the other ship we’ve seen so far. So still welcoming help. Again thanks for all the help, I’m thinking of opening a thread on the B5Wars forum to discus some of my ideas.

I recently made a Ship Control Sheet for the Battlestar Galactica from the new scifi series. If you are interseted.
I also am almost finished with the Mercury Class Battlestar (Pegasus), and both the Mark 2 and Mark 7 Vipers.

Hopefully i'll be able to make the cylon ships next, and the Raptor.

Thanks for the offer Knavelead, but i've got them done my self now. Bit of a learning curve but it's good fun. Still shouting at the computer now and then though.
Thanks again.

I found multiple picture of pegasus and galactica all over the web.
The pegasus has 4 KEW gun turrets on the side of each "pontoon" in the side arc, and two more at each of bothe of the end of the pontoon. So 2 aft, 2 forward, 4 side.
It also has the 8 big barrels fixed forward in the front and also 4 Kew turrets on the front, and 2 more along each of the sides of the aligator head.
I can email you pics if you want.
